A native of Southampton County, he has been a resident of Wakefield for the past ten years. He was a son of Mrs. Bessie Slade Hines and the late Claude E. Hines. He was a member of Millfield Baptist Church. He was an employee of Smithfield Packing Co. Besides his mother, surviving are his widow, Mrs. Frances Harris Hines of Wakefield; two sisters, Mrs. Sam B. Stephenson of Wakefield and Miss Grace Elizabeth Hines of Alexandria; and a brother, James Earl Hines of Wakefield. A funeral service was held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in Purviance Funeral Chapel here by the Rev. J.L. McTeer and the Rev. D.M. Cotter. Burial was in Ivor Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Paul Barrett, Morton Daughtrey, Brock Bailey, Roy Cornwell, Fugate Warren, Marion Raiford, W.A. Mohler, J.L. Edwards and Harry Carroll.
