ELLA HINES DIES IN FALL ON STAIRWAY Mrs. Ella Leigh Hines died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Caleb M. Cornwell, in the Berlin community Sunday evening as the result of a fall down the stairway, the aged lady surviving the shock only a few hours. Mrs. Hines was the daughter of the late Watt and Mrs. Amanda Whitehead Stephenson and was born February 10, 1864. In 1884 she married John E. Hines who died about eight years ago. She was a faithful member of Millfield Baptist Church joining that church in early childhood, and was generally beloved and esteemed throughout her entire community. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. C.M. Cornwell of Berlin; three sons, L.M. and J.S. Hines of San Diego, Cal. and C.E. Hines of Berlin; two sisters, Mrs. Rebecca Kitchen and Mrs. W.K. Whitfield of Berlin and a brother, W.C. Stephenson of Suffolk. Funeral services were held from the home of Mrs. Cornwell Tuesday afternoon with Rev. E.B. Cahoon officiating, assisted by Rev. C.E. Gerringer of Wakefield. Active pallbearers were: A.S. Cornwell, Jasper and Herman Whitfield, Arthur and Theo Kitchen, Elmo Hines, Rabey Cornwell and Harvey Stephenson. Burial was made in the family cemetery, the floral tributes being numerous and beautiful. Ella Leigh (STEPHENSON; Mrs. John E.)
