All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ EMMETT HINES Emmett Hines, 69, residing at Manry, this county, died suddenly on Thursday morning, January 15. He was driving his car out of the lane at his home when a colored man, who had opened the gate for him, noticed that Mr. Hines was slumped over the wheel. The car continued in motion until it struck the gate post, and when the colored man opened the door Mr. Hines was dead from a heart attack. The deceased is survived by one sister, a twin, Mrs. Emma Davis of Norfolk, and a number of nieces and nephews. He was a member of Barrett's Christian Church. Funeral services for Mr. Hines were held at the home in Manry on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with Rev. J.M. Roberts of Windsor officiating, assisted by Rev. Carroll H. Beale of Wakefield. Music at the home was furnished by a quartette consisted of L.L. Story, John Darden, Rev. W.L. Sturtevant, and S.W. Purviance. Active pallbearers were Stuart Martin, T.L. Brittle, William S. Davis, Edward C. Davis, Enoch M. Morris and Elmo Pittman. At the grave the Misses Essie Brittle, and Virginia Griffin sang "The Old Rugged Cross." The casket was covered with a blanket of white and red roses. Burial was in the family cemetery adjoining the home.
