He departed this life, at Smithfield, on Saturday evening, 2nd inst. At 6 o’clock. We are not informed of the precise number of days here below, but a long and intimate acquaintance with him, enables us to assert with confidence, that he had lived long enough to build up, in the extensive circles of his association, a reputation worthy of the philanthropic impulses that regulated his conduct, and to entwine himself so closely around the best affections of his friends and acquaintances, that the wound inflicted by the reverence, an only be healed by the oblivious baisom of time. In his profession as a Lawyer, Mr. Hines was of very respectable standing, and, as in the capacity of Commonwealth’s Attorney, his vigilance and fidelity knew no compromise with vice and immorality, (while the claims of humanity were never disregarded), so in the discharge of his duty to his clients, he was punctual, zealous and indefatigable. In his daily inter course with society, he exhibited the polished gentleman, the kind of benevolent friend and neighbor, and in all his dealings was open, ingenuous, and inflexibly just. As a father he presented a model of affectionate solicitude for the welfare of his offspring, of diligence and perseverance in useful acquirements, blended with wholesome discipline and indulgence; as a husband he was worthy the imitation of all who sustain this connection; and as a master he was humane and indulgent. In fine, we know of no man, who, in our judgment fulfilled the duties of life in a manner more becoming, or more exemplary. My the consolations of a merciful Providence be liberally extended to his numerous family, under their severe bereavement.
