A native of Suffolk he has been in Courtland for 40 years. He was the husband of Mrs. Mary Magda Hancock and the son of the late Robert L. Hancock Jr. and Mrs. Mary Johnson Hancock. His father invented the Hancock Seed Peanut Sheller and was founder of the firm managed by the Hancock Sons. He was an Army veteran of W.W. II, a member of the American Legion, Courtland Ruritan Club, Courtland Baptist Church and Scout Master of Troop No. 11 Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Hancock is listed among the biographies in the history of Lower Tidewater, Va. Besides his wife, surviving are two daughters, Margaret Rose Hancock, Amanda Magda Hancock, two sons, Harry Lee Hancock, Jr. and James Calvin Hancock; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Lucille Dilday and Mrs. Murial Jacqueline Shearin, one brother, Garth Stuart Hancock. A funeral service will be held Friday 2:00 P.M. in W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home, burial in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland. In lieu of flowers the family has suggested that contributions be made to the Courtland Rescue Squad. ****************************************************************************** HARRY LEE HANCOCK COURTLAND - A funeral service for Harry Lee Hancock, 53, treasurer of Hancock Peanut Co., was held Friday at 2 p.m. in Franklin by the Rev. Harold Lewis. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery. A native of Courtland, he was the husband of Mrs. Mary Magda Hancock and a son of the late Robert Lafayette Jr. and Mrs. Mary Johnson Hancock. His father, inventor of the Hancock seed peanut sheller, was founder of the firm, managed now by the Hancock sons. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Upon returning to civilian life, he became a partner in the family enterprise with his two brothers. He was a member of American Legion, Courtland Ruritan Club and Courtland Baptist Church and assistant scoutmaster of Courtland Boy Scout Troop 11. Hancock, his father, and brothers are listed among the Biographies in "The History of Lower Tidewater Virginia." Besides his widow, surviving are two daughters Margaret Rose Hancock and Amana Magda Hancock, and two sons Harry Lee Hancock Jr. and James Calvin Hancock all of Courtland; two sisters Mrs. Mary Lucille Dilday of Suffolk and Mrs. Murial Jacqueline Shearin of Courtland; and a brother Garth Stuart Hancock of Courtland.
