All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JOSEPH QUINCY HANCOCK Joseph Quincy Hancock, 79, well known farmer of Dory, Southampton County, died at his home Wednesday morning as the result of a stroke suffered in Courtland Monday. Mr. Hancock was the son of Joseph H. and Georgia Anna Gray Hancock, of Sussex County. He was born is Sussex County September 12, 1865 and was married twice. His first wife was Miss Lucy Virginia Hines, of Southampton County, and they had one daughter, Mrs. Blanche H. Cornwell, of Norfolk. His second marriage was to Miss Virginia Barrett, June 26, 1918, who survives him. They have one daughter, Mrs. James Oliver Joyner, of Sedley. He was a member of Barrett's Christian Church near Wakefield. Surviving besides his wife and two daughters are one brother, Robert Lee Hancock, of Newport News; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock at Barrett's Christian Church by the Rev. Murdock Butler, assisted by the Rev. J.M. Roberts and the Rev. C.E. Gerringer. Burial was in the family cemetery near Manry.
