She was the daughter of John and Louisa Joyner Whitfield of Southampton County and a lifelong resident of the county. Her husband was the late Andrew Jackson Hancock. She was a member of the Johnson's Grove Christian Church. Surviving her are two sons, Howard S. Hancock of Sedley and Dr. H.J. Hancock of Anderson S.C.; a foster daughter, Mrs. Harry Umphlett of Elizabeth City, N.C.; a brother J.E. Whitfield of Richmond; four grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. The body was taken to the Funeral Home of W.J.M. Holland and sons, Franklin, where funeral services will be conducted Monday at 4:30 p.m. by the Rev. William A. Grissom and the Rev. C.A. McCormick. Burial will be in the Rosemont Cemetery here. Active pallbearers were Joe Owen, Paul Wellons, R.K. Hancock Jr, Julian Careter, K.W. Hancock, Irving Williams, W.T. Hancock Mrs. Maggie Whitfield Hancock, 84, of Sedley died at Raiford Memorial Hospital on Saturday, April 27, after several years of failing health. A lifelong resident of Southampton County, Mrs. Hancock was the widow of Andrew Jackson Hancock of Sedley and the daughter of the late John and Louis Joyner Whitfield of Southampton County. She was a member of Johnson's Grove Christian Church. Surviving her are two sons, Howard S. Hancock of Sedley and Dr. H. J. Hancock of Anderson, S. C., a foster daughter, Mrs. Harry Umphlett of Elizabeth City, N. C.; a brother, J.E. Whitfield of Richmond; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Monday at 4:30 p.m. in the chapel of W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home by Rev. C. A. McCormick, pastor of the Courtland Methodist Church. Burial was in Rosemont Cemetery, Sedley. Active pallbearers were Joe Owen, Paul Wellons, R. L. Hancock, Jr., Julian Carter, K. W. Hancock, Irving Williams, W. T. Johnson, Jr., and Herman Whitfield.
