HANCOCK Mrs. Mary Ernie Johnson Hancock, 61, wife of Robert L. Hancock, Jr., of Courtland, died at the residence early Thursday morning, December 30, after several years of ill health. Mrs. Hancock was the daughter of Mrs. Nathan Lemuel Carr of Newport News and the late John Thomas Johnson of this county. She was a member of the Courtland Baptist Church and of its Woman's Missionary Soceity. Besides her husband and mother she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Cedric Dilday of Columbia, S.C. and Mrs. James S. Johnson of Courtland; three sons, Garth Steward Hancock, Harry Lee Hancock and R.L. Hancock, 3rd, all of Courtland; 20 grandchildren; three brothers H.L. Johnson of Lynchburg and William and J.T. Johnson of Portsmouth; and three sisters; Mrs. Cecil Blythe of Franklin, Mrs. J.T. Foister of Washington, D.C., and Mrs. George E. Gardner of Newport News. Final rites for Mrs. Hancock were held in the Courtland Baptist Church on Friday afternoon, December 31, with the pastor, Rev. L.M. Kanipe, officiating, assisted by Rev. C.A. McCormick, Jr., pastor of the Courtland Methodist Church. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland. Pallbearers were R.G. Edwards, Jr., W.E. Edwards, W.B. Ellis, Lineberry Grissom, James Ulssyes Kitchen and Elliott Parker. Mary Ernie (JOHNSON; Mrs. Robert L.
