Brantley and his son, Richard, 15. The two men and boy had gone deep into the woods when Harrup was stricken. When Brantley found that he could do nothing to revive Mr. Harrup, he made his way out of the woods to obtain aid, leaving his son to guard the body. Brantley became lost in the woods but finally found on old road that led out. He summoned aid and a doctor from Emporia reached the scene and found that Harrup had died almost instantly. The physician commended the courage of young Brantley in standing by the body while his father went for aid. Mr. Harrup is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ruby E. Harrup of Southampton; two sons, Jimmy and Gardner Harrup; two sisters, Mrs. K.D. Jenkins of Courtland and Mrs. Mack Stansberg of Roanoke Rapids, N.C. ; two brothers, J.T. Harrup and S.J.
