Harris, 59, died Friday night at his residence on Fontaine Street here following a lingering illness. He was the son of the late William and Martha Harris of Southampton County. Mr. Harris was a member of the Franklin Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mattie Bradshaw Harris; three daughters, Mrs. Richard Saunders of Norfolk, and the Misses Pearl and Mamie Harris of Franklin; two brothers, Arthur N. Harris of Norfolk and Willie Harris of Zuni and a number of nieces and nephews. Services were conducted from the residence Sunday afternoon at 4:30 o’clock by his pastor, the Rev. R.D. Stephenson. The casket was covered with a pall of white lilies and carnations, and there were other beautiful floral tributes. Members of the choir of his church sang "Asleep in Jesus" and "Have Thine Own Way, Lord." Burial took place in Poplar Spring Cemetery here with the following pallbearers: Champ Joyner, John L. Eley, R.I. Lankford, Harvey Cutchin, Joe Cutchin, Kenneth Gray and Tank Lowe.
