Harris died last Thursday morning, June 29, at his home in Newsoms. At the time of his death he was in his 84th year. Mr. Harris was a native of Alabama, but had lived in Virginia for many years. He had been a resident of Newsoms for thirty-two years and of Franklin for two years. During the first World War he lived one year in Suffolk. He was a repairer of sewing machines, organs, clocks, etc. At one time he was salesman of McCaw Manufacturing Co. of Chicago, and again he represented the Southern Cotton Oil Co. For 53 years he was a member of the order of Knights of Pythias, participating in the organization of several lodges. He is survived by a sister in Alabama. Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at the Newsoms cemetery with Rev. L.G. Tinnell, of the Methodist Church, officiating. The following acted as pallbearers: John Worrell, Larry Story, Beale Carter, Ray Vick, Lee Thorpe, W.S. McGraw, P.S. Worrell and W.T. Oberry.
