All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ VIRGIE HEDGEPETH HARGRAVE Wakefield - A funeral service for Mrs. Virgie Hedgepeth Hargrave was conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Millfield Baptist Church by the Rev. W.L. Allford. Burial was in the Hedgepeth family cemetery in Southampton County with Purviance Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were R.H. Cornwell, J.C. Whitmore Jr., Herman W. Wade, Sam S. Stephenson, R. Seward Giles, Will Turner, C.B. Harding and R.J. Hotchkiss. Mrs. Hargrave, 78, died Wednesday in a Richmond hospital of injuries suffered Dec. 24 in a two-car collision on U.S. 460 about a mile west of Wakefield. Trooper W.O. Lane said the wreck happened about noon on a straight stretch of highway [...] Mrs. C.H. (Nancy) Nagle, 35, of Richmond, Lane said. Mrs. Nagle and her mother were headed west toward Richmond when the driver of an on-coming automobile lost control of his vehicle and crossed into their path, the trooper said. The driver of the second car was identified as Curtis O’Neal Stith, 23, of Wakefield. Neither Stith nor Mrs. Nagle was injured seriously, said Lane. The trooper said Mrs. Nagle swerved to avoid Stith’s car and her automobile was struck in the right side. Mrs. Hargrave’s address was Route 1, Sedley. A lifelong resident of Southampton County, she was a daughter of John W. and Mrs. Nannie Slade Hedgepeth and the widow of Moses Henry Hargrave. She was a member of Burton’s Grove Christian Church and Millfield Baptist Church Sunday School. Surviving besides Mrs. Nagle, are two sisters, Mrs. W.H. Jones and Mrs. Lola M. Fluxe of Norfolk; and a brother John W. Hedgepeth of Atlanta. Virgie (HEDGEPETH; Mrs. Moses H.)
