VIRGINIA NEWS. 

  Captain James H. Hardee, a well-known citizen of Southampton county, 
died suddenly last Monday evening.  He was buried Wednesday with Masonic 
honors.  The deceased was about sixty years old, and was one of the 
county supervisors.

J.H. Hardee appears in the 1880 Census (Drewryville Dist., e.d. 102, p. 22B) 
   age 51, b. NC, with wife Elizabeth (56, b. TN).

He does not appear in the (recopied) Southampton Co. Death Records (1853-1896) 
   but his wife may: 
   Hardee, E.V., female, d. 16 May 1894, age 72, dt/o [parents not given],
