Holland and Sons Funeral Home by the Rev. Ed Thornton of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Burial will be in Southampton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Johnnie Lee Scott, Jack Story, Hertford Bryant, W.L. Young Sr., Ryland Duck and Braxton Bell. Howard, 53, of 409 First Ave., died in his home Tuesday morning after a brief illness. A native of Bertie County, N.C., he lived in this area most of his life. He was a retired fire department employee of the government. He was a Baptist, an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Delaware Hunt Club. He was a son of the late Willie Jackson and Mrs. Mary Coleson Howard. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. R.W. Meade of Franklin and Mrs. Edith Nicholson of Portsmouth; and three brothers, Vernon D. Howard of Appomattox, and Roy Howard and Lacy Howard of Franklin.
