Mrs. Howard, who was the owner of the Howard Hotel, was one of the best known ladies in her county, and, besides, was well known to the travelling public, among whom her congeniality had gained many friends. She was the mother of Mr. Richard Howard, a large merchant at Newsom's, and also of the late Thomas M. Howard, who was clerk of the Circuit Court in Southampton.
