Mrs. Hart, before her marriage in 1900, to John Drew Hart of this county, was Miss Mary Olivia Little of Como, N.C. Born at the old Little Homestead in Littleton, N.C., November 23, 1877, she was the daughter of George Little, Jr. and Mrs. Homoiselle Vann Little, and a granddaughter of Col. George Little of Raleigh, N.C. When about two years old her father died, and her mother moved to her old home, Como, N.C., where Mrs. Hart spent her young womanhood and where she has so many loved ones and friends. In 1902, Mr. Hart brought his young wife and baby to Boykins to live, and where she soon made a host of friends, many being added as the years went by. Mr. Hart died eight years ago, leaving this little woman to carry on, and well has she done it. Although frail and almost an invalid for years, she was vitally interested in everything that made for the best in her home, church, town and community. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Jno. B. Darden of Newsoms; two daughters, Miss Retta Vann Hart of Boykins and Mrs. J. Bowden Hundley of Portsmouth; two nieces, Miss Jane Howell of Como and Mrs. T.I. Burbage, Jr., of Baltimore; three nephews, John B., Jr., and William Darden of Newsoms and Geo. Little Howell of Dunedin, Florida. Her oldest sister, Mrs. Margaret L. Howell of Como, died about eleven years ago. Funeral services were conducted at her home by her Pastor, Rev. Frank B. Handley, assisted by Rev. E. Norfleet Gardner of Dunn, N.C., Rev. R.D. Stephenson of Franklin, and Rev. J.L. Kibler of Boykins. During the services Mr. Gardner read "Crossing The Bar" and made a few appropriate personal remarks. Mrs. H.M. Purviance sang "No Night There," and a Quartette, Mrs. Purviance, Mrs. A.M. Williams, H. McDonald Piers and Rosser Bryant, Jr., sang "It Is Well With My Soul" and the "The Christian Goodnight." The body was laid to rest in the family plot in Beechwood Cemetery. The active pallbearers were John B. Darden, Jr., William Darden, E.W. Bryant, B.R. Bryant, Roswell Hart, S.J. Myrick, Dr. J.A. Grizzard and Dr. J.M. Bland. The honorary pallbearers were selected from a host of friends from North Carolina and Virginia. The large number of beautiful floral designs attested the popularity of this noble character. This is written with love and affection by her family physician for 27 years. J.M. Bland.
