A VERY QUIET DAY THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE STATE. Democrats a Walk-Over in Most of the Counties - Little Opposition by Republicans and Third Partyites. Negroes Take Little Interest. COURTLAND, VA., May 26. - Special. - The election for county and circuit court clerks and for districts which was held on yesterday resulted in the election of B.F. McLemore, the incumbent, as clerk of the county court, and T.M. Howard clerk of the circuit court for Southampton county. There was no opposition to either of the above-named gentlemen. Every district in the county had two sets of candidates for the district offices. In some districts the People's party ran a ticket in opposition to the Democrats; in others the Republicans. In every instance the People's party were overwhelmingly defeated. In the Newsoms district only the Republicans have very probably elected their ticket. No precinct polled more than two-thirds of its usual vote, and the want of interest seems to have been chiefly on the part of the negroes, most of whom stayed at home. Those voting at all voted the straight Democratic ticket.
