All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ VIRGINIA POPE HOWARD Mrs. Virginia Pope Howard, 74, widow of Richard Howard, died at her home in Newsoms on Thursday afternoon, December 29, after a short illness. Mrs. Howard was the daughter of the late Russell Putnam and Betty Thomas Harris Pope of Southampton County, and was a member of the Newsoms Methodist Church. She is survived by a niece, Mrs. Virginia C. Shumway of Long Beach, Calif.; and three nephews, Newit Edward Cabell of Newsoms, George C. Cabell of Norfolk; and Sheridan Cabell of Boykins. Funeral rites were conducted from the home on Saturday afternoon at two o'clock by Rev. F.L. Baker of Richmond, a former pastor, assisted by Rev. R.B. Moore and Rev. R.L. Chadwick, both of Newsoms. Burial was in the Newsoms cemetery, active pallbearers being Abner Pope of Norfolk, James T. Gillette, Sr., of Courtland, John M. Britt of Boykins, Dr. J.J. Grizzard of Branchville, and James D. Darden, E. Beale Carter, R.B. Story, Jr., and John B. Darden.
