Horne Drowns at Zuni Funeral services to Be Held for Prominent Merchant Farmer Franklin, April 24 - Robert Arthur Horne, age 64, merchant and farmer of Zuni, was drowned in the Blackwater River early today near his home. The body was recovered from the river about 10 o'clock. Dr. Rae Parker, coroner for Isle of Wight County who investigated. No details of the drowning were ascertained, he said. Mr. Horne had been in ill health some time. He was the son of the late John Robert and Josephine Johnson Horne and a lifelong resident of Zuni. He began his career as a clerk in the store of the late J.M. Darden, and later opened his own store and became one of the leading merchants of Isle of Wight County. He organized the Bank of Zuni and became its president, which office he held a number of years, until the bank closed in 1932. He was a charter member of Bethany Presbyterian Church and an elder. Surviving are two sisters Mrs. Arthur Clayton and Mrs. J.M. Clayton, both of Zuni and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the grave at Tucker Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery Friday at 3 p.m. conducted by Rev. Vernon L. Fisher of Craddock. Nephews of the deceased will be active pallbearers: Richard A., Irvin A., J.R. & J.M. Clayton, Jr. of Zuni, John W. Horne of Beaumont, Russell Johnson of Windsor, E. L. Bryant and T. M. Mr. Horne lived near Zuni. The body was recovered from the river at about 10 o'clock. Dr. Rae Parker, Isle of Wight County coroner, said that no details of the tragedy were available. So far as it is known, there were no witnesses to the drowning. Mr. Horne was the son of the late John R. and Josephine Horne. He was a leading merchant of Zuni, organized the Bank of Zuni and was its president for a number of years until it closed in 1932. A charter member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, he was an elder of that congregation. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Clayton and Mrs. J.M.
