He was the husband of the late Thelma Mead Herring. He had retired as a chief clerk at Seaboard System Railroad Inc. He was secretary-treasurer of the Courtland Rescue Squad and a member of the Courtland Ruitan Club. He was a member and deacon of Courtland Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School. Survivors include a daughter, Kathleen H. Pixley of Courtland; a son, Army Brig. General B.M. Herring Jr. of Fort Stewart, Georgia; 2 sisters, Mildred Herring and Kathryn H. Austin both of Savannah, Georgia; 2 brothers, Emory L. Herring and Richard S. Herring, both of Vidalia, Georgia and 6 grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 2:00 pm Thursday, October 25, 1983 in Courtland Baptist Church by the Rev Edmund Ellis. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Wright Funeral Home of Franklin is in charge.
