JACKSON, 3RD, DIES IN WEST VIRGINIA Jesse Andrews Jackson, 3rd, native of Franklin, died at his home in Grantsville, W. Va., Tuesday afternoon, September 17, after an illness of nearly one year’s duration. Mr. Jackson was born here May 8, 1891, the son of Mrs. Flora Bryant Jackson and the late Jesse A. Jackson. He graduated from the law school of Washington and Lee University in 1912, and practiced law in Clarksburg, W. Va., for a while. For more than 25 years he was employed as an abstractor by the Hope Natural Gas Company of Pittsburgh, Penn., and had served acceptably as Mayor of his city, Grantsville. He was a useful member of the Grantsville M.E. Church and teacher of its men’s Bible class. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mildred Marshall Jackson, and four children, Robert M. Jackson of the U.S.S. Texas, and Gwendolyn, Virginia and Jesse Andrews Jackson, 4th, of Grantsville, W.Va.; by his mother, Mrs. Flora Bryant Jackson of this town; a sister, Mrs. B.M. Trotter, and a brother, Edgar Jackson, both of Norfolk, and by four nephews of Norfolk. Mr. Jackson was a man of unusual ability and many fine traits of character, and is affectionately remembered by a host of friends in this town where he had been a frequent visitor. Following a brief service at the home in Grantsville Thursday morning at 10 o’clock, the body was brought to Franklin for burial in the family plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Funeral services were conducted from the Jackson home this (Friday) afternoon at 2:30 o’clock by Rev. S. Paris Bell, Jr., pastor of the Grantsville Methodist Church, assisted by Rev. B.B. Bland, pastor of High Street Methodist Church, and Dr. Elwood W. Jones of the Franklin Congregational-Christian Church. The active pallbearers were: Leonard Marshall of Grantsville, W.Va., B.M. Trotter, Jr., of Norfolk, W.T. Pace, Jr., Cecil Vaughan, 3rd, Jesse A. Weede, Willie M. Weede, Joe Bynum Gay, Jr., and Joe Gay Bryant.
