Holland & Sons Funeral Home by Dr. Ira D. Hudgins of Franklin Baptist Church. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers were Homer Parker, D.A. Gooden, W.L. Thompson Jr., Norman Gillette, Francis Clark, Jackson Wade, W.B. Pierce and Charles A. Wieters. Jakeman, 51, of 309 S. High St. died in a Petersburg hospital Saturday night. A native of Nansemond County, he lived here 22 years. He was the husband of Mrs. Mary Ann Baker Jakeman and a son of Wilson Arthur and Mrs. Mary J. Copeland Jakeman. He worked for Cavalier Vending Machine Co. He was a member of Franklin Baptist Church and Franklin Masonic Lodge 151. He was a World War II veteran. Besides his widow, surviving are a son, George Arthur Jakeman Jr. of Plymouth, N.C.; two daughters, Mrs. Frank R. Ranson of Norfolk and Mrs. Roger R. Drake of Newsoms; three brothers, E.T. Jakeman and M.C. Jakeman of Suffolk, and W.W. Jakeman of Whaleyville; two sisters, Mrs. Harry Christianson of Danville, and Mrs. C.B. Fields of Chicago; two half sisters, Mrs. John Bright of Suffolk and Mrs. Weldon Hobbs of Hobbsville, N.C.; two granddaughters; and stepmother, Mrs. Jakeman of Suffolk.
