All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ DAISY BALLARD JONES Funeral service for Mrs. Daisy Ballard Jones, 59, who died at the residence, 609 Chestnut Street, early Saturday morning, September 4, were conducted at 3:30 o’clock Sunday afternoon at the Congregation Christian Church by the pastor, Rev. Robert M. Kimball, assisted by Rev. R.D. Stephenson of Portsmouth, a former pastor of Franklin Baptist Church. Interment was made in Poplar Spring Cemetery. A quartette composed of Mrs. N.T. Barron, Mrs. T. Hayes Holland, Dr. Darden W. Jones and Ernest K. Brinkley sang "Asleep In Jesus" and "Saved By Grace," and Mrs. Vernon Holland of Holland sang "Sunrise Tomorrow." The casket was covered with a blanket of red roses, lilies and fern. Mrs. Jones, who had been in ill health for five years preceding her death, was born near Walters on July 8, 1889. She was the daughter of the late John M. and Annie Hall Ballard of Isle of Wight County and the granddaughter of the late Col. George F. Hall, also of Isle of Wight. In 1911 she married William H. Jones of Franklin. Joining the Franklin Christian Church 37 years ago, she had been a faithful member of the church, the Ladies’ Aid Society, and the Carrie Beale class of the Sunday School. Besides her husband she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. W. Bryan Hastings, of Franklin; a grandson, W. Bryant Hastings, Jr.; four sisters, Mrs. F.M. Clements of Greensboro, N.C., Mrs. B.L. Gale of Richmond, and Mrs. W.T. Daughtrey and Mrs. Annie B. Rose, both of the Franklin community; two brothers, A.W. Ballard of Norfolk and John M. Ballard of Norfolk; and a number of nieces and nephews. The active pallbearers were Dr. Darden W. Jones, T. Hayes Holland, Samuel Bradshaw, L.B. Norfleet, J.B. Gay, Jr., Everett R. Bryant, J. Letcher Eley and R.E. Coggsdale. Friends of the family acted as honorary pallbearers. Daisy (BALLARD; Mrs. William H.)
