All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ TRECY ODELL RAWLS JONES Funeral services for Mrs. Odell Rawls Jones were conducted from her late residence in Clay Street Wednesday morning at 11 o’clock by her pastor, the Rev. R.D. Stephenson, in the presence of an unusually large assemblage of relatives and friends. The pastor read appropriate scripture lessons and the old, familiar hymn, "How Firm a Foundation"; reading at the graveside in Poplar Spring Cemetery, "Now the Laborer’s Task is Done." Active pallbearers were James, Charles and Ashby Rawls, James Jones, Joe Bynum Gay, Jr., Hugh Camp, Everett Bryant and T.J. Crooks, honorary bearers being selected from a large list of friends. A pall of white carnations, lilies of the valley, Baby’s Breath and fern was used and there were many beautiful floral designs. Mrs. Jones, who died Sunday afternoon, June 13, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Watkins, here, was the daughter of the late Robert Rawls and Mrs. Diana Cutchins Rawls of Nansemond County, both of leading families of the South Quay community. Mrs. Jones’ husband, the late John Paul Jones of this town, died in February, 1934.* She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. George Watkins, with whom she made her home, and Mrs. H. Wayland Stephenson of Ivor; one son, Robert E. Jones of Concord, N.C.; five grandchildren, R.E. Jones, Jr., Branson and John Paul Jones of Concord, N.C.; H. Wayland Stephenson, Jr. and Diana Stephenson of Ivor; five brothers, Dr. J.C. Rawls, Robert P. Rawls and S.W. Rawls of Franklin, John A. Rawls of Holland and James T. Rawls of Dunnellon, Florida; three sisters, Mrs. W.T. Pace of Franklin, Mrs. J.R.L. Johnson of Williamsburg and Miss Mabel Rawls of Norfolk, besides a large and prominent family connection. She was a faithful and consistent member of the Franklin Baptist Church, and of its mission organization, a fine Christian character, who numbered a wide circle of lifelong neighbors and friends.
