Jones died at her residence in North Main Street early Monday morning, September 22, in the 76th year of her life. She was a native of Nansemond County, a daughter of the late Joseph John Lawrence and Mrs. Mary Holland Lawrence of South Quay, and was the last member of a large family of brothers and sisters. In 1877 she was married to F.M. Jones, a son of Adolphus Jones of Nansemond County, who died in 1889. In 1900 Mrs. Jones moved to Franklin where she made her home, being an invalid during the last six years of her life. Since her early youth she had been connected with the Baptist Church, first at South Quay and later joining the Franklin Baptist Church. She was known and loved as an exemplary Christian woman, a devoted mother, a loving and faithful friend. She is survived by two sons, Alvah H. Jones and Wayland F. Jones; one daughter, Mrs. T.A. Vaughan, and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Atkinson, all of Franklin, besides many relatives and friends in the town and community. Funeral services were conducted from her late residence Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock by Rev. L.F. Paulette of Smithfield and interment followed in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The active pallbearers were: Harry Steinhardt, W.H. Jones, Willie Rawls, W.H. Lankford, W.A. Jones, Geo. R. Hayes, Joe Bynum Gay and Harry Holland of Norfolk. Pattie S. (LAWRENCE; Mrs. Francis M.)
