Jones, 79, a retired farmer of Nansemond County, died in Louise Obici Hospital, Suffolk, on Sunday night, January 20, after an illness of a few weeks. He was the son of the late Rev. James E. Jones and Eugenia Gardner Jones of South Quay. In 1905 Mr. Jones married Miss Ruby Parker of Murfreesboro, N.C., who survives him. A member of the South Quay Baptist Church, he was prominent in Nansemond County affairs and was for many years a member of the county Democratic committee and the School Electoral Board. He was a charter member of Ruritan National and of its mother club in Holland. Besides his wife he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Lawrence E. Holland of South Quay; [her] three children, Philip Parker, Eugene Emmett and Carl Clay Holland, all of South Quay; and one sister, Mrs. Garrie Jones Rawls, also of South Quay. Funeral services for Mr. Jones were held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the South Quay Baptist Church. Officiating were Revs. R.D. Stephenson and J.C. Lanning. Interment was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the active pallbearers being Rowland Clark, J. Frank Culpepper, H.G. Gardner, E.J. Howell, James Rawls, Garland Saunders, H.P. Saunders, H.V. White.
