Ross Jones, Jr., 42, a native of Franklin, died in a Portsmouth hospital on Thursday, April 2, after having been in ill health for the past 10 years. He was a son of L. Ross Jones, Sr., of Franklin and the late Margaret Hargrove* Jones. A member of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church, he was educated in the Franklin schools. In addition to his father, he is survived by one brother, R. Ellsworth Jones of Franklin, and one nephew, Robert E. Jones, Jr., a student in Duke University. Final rites were held at the grave in Poplar Spring Cemetery on Saturday morning at 11 o’clock, with Rev. R.D. Stephenson officiating assisted by Rev. Harvey L. Carnes pastor of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church. Serving as pallbearers were Dr. Darden W. Jones, Emerson P. Jones, W. Tall Jones, Thurman Mannings, Bernard Smith and Franklin Whitfield.
