NEWS NOTES FROM THE COCKADE CITY. Funeral of Mr. Jones - Badly Bitten by a Dog - Political Matters - Robbery, Etc. [Correspondence of the Richmond Dispatch.] PETERSBURG, VA., Sept. 10, 1888. The funeral of the late Sidney O. Jones, who died suddenly of heart-disease on Saturday night, took place this afternoon at 4 o'clock from the Tabb-Street Presbyterian church. The weather was very inclement, but notwithstanding this fact there was a large attendance at the church, as well as at the cemetery. The deceased was a gallant Confederate soldier and one of our most popular citizens. He was a member of A.P. Hill Camp of Confederate Veterans, and the old Confederate survivors generally turned out to pay respect to his memory. He was buried with Masonic honors. The death of Mr. Jones was a peculiarly sad one, and by no means the least feature of regret about it was the fact that in a few days he was to have been married. Sidney O. JONES, Confederate veteran, d. 8 Sep 1888, interred in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, 10 Sep 1888, "The Richmond (VA) Dispatch," Tues., Sep. 11, 1888, p. 4, col. 1 Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by File Manager Matt Harris (zoobug64@aol.com). file at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/va/petersburg/obits/j520s6ob.txt
