WILLIAM E. JONES

   William E. Jones, 91, Franklin resident for many years and the town’s 
oldest citizen, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H.W. Irving, Friday, 
April 13, in Suffolk after an illness of four months.

   "Uncle Billie," as he was known to the people of Franklin was son of the 
late John and Patsy Jones, of Nansemond County.  He was a consistent member 
of Franklin Congregational Church, where he served until ill health prevented 
his attending.

   Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Lula Howell Jones, of Franklin; two 
daughters, Mrs. H.W. Irving, of Suffolk, and Mrs. J.W. Spencer, of Dickenson; 
two grandchildren, Mrs. R.M. Baird, of Suffolk, and William E. Jones, 3rd, of 
Bismarck, N.D., one sister, Mrs. Emma Jernigan of Norfolk.

   The body was taken to the funeral home of W.J.M. Holland and sons, in 
Franklin.  On Saturday afternoon it was taken to Franklin Congregational 
Christian Church at 3 o’clock for services, Dr. William T. Scott and the Rev. 
R.D. Stephenson officiating.  Interment was in the Holland Cemetery.

   Active pallbearers were E.P. Jones, W.H. Jones (Tup), E.K. Brinkley, L.B. 
Norfleet, Everett R. Bryant, Jr., Esmond Redelle, J.L. Eley, Jr., and H.E. 
Ellworth.
