All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ WILLIAM JONES, OF COUNTY, DIES South Quay Farmer, 69 SUFFOLK, June 22. - William Abraham Jones, 69, prominent farmer and partner in the South Quay Peanut Company, died at his home in South Quay last night after an illness of several months. He was the son of the late Rev. James Eldridge and Eugenia Gardner Jones, of Nansemond County. He had been a member of South Quay Baptist Church since early childhood. He was twice married, first to Miss Eva Virginia Lawrence, of Southampton County. Of this union one daughter and three sons survive, Miss Jennie Lee Jones, of the home; William Jones, of Whaleyville, Sergt. Joseph J. Jones, USAAF, stationed in California, and James E. Jones of South Quay. His second wife, the former Miss Emma Holland, of Franklin, survives him. Also surviving are six grandchildren, one brother, Philip A. Jones, of Nansemond County. Funeral arrangements are pending the arrival of his son from California. ****************************************************************************** WILLIAM ABRAHAM JONES William Abraham Jones, 69, well-known farmer and partner in the South Quay Peanut Company, died at his home in South Quay, Nansemond County Thursday, June 21. He was the son of the late Rev. James Eldridge Jones and Mrs. Eugenia Gardner Jones of Nansemond County. Born and reared near South Quay, he was educated in Nansemond County and at the old Franklin Military Academy. He was a member of South Quay Baptist Church from early childhood and always took an active part in the affairs of his church. Mr. Jones was twice married, first to Miss Eva Virginia Lawrence of South Quay. Of this union one daughter and three sons survive: Miss Jennie Lee Jones of South Quay; Wm. J. Jones of Whaleyville; Sergeant Joseph John Jones, U.S.A.A.F., stationed in California and James Eldridge Jones of South Quay. His second marriage was to Miss Emma Holland of Franklin who survives him. Also surviving are six grandchildren; one brother, Philip A. Jones, of Nansemond County, and one sister, Mrs. Garrie Jones Rawls, of Nansemond County. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 4 o’clock at the home conducted by the Rev. W.B. Watson, the Rev. R.D. Stephenson and Dr. Wm. T. Scott. Mrs. W.T. Scott sang "Sweet Peace, the Gift of God’s Love." Active pallbearers were J. Edgar Weede, G.E. Pillow, W.J. Manry, Cecil C. Vaughan, III, J.E. Rawls, Otis Baines, W.H. (Tup) Jones, and James I. Beale, Jr. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin.
