  Dr. L. W. Jones was killed by a negro at Newsom's Southampton county, Va. 
on Monday, in a difficulty which originated from a dispute about some trivial 
thing on the Doctor's farm. 


Dr. L. Wellington JONES, 
murdered 1 Jul 1878, on his farm, Newsoms, age ca. 52, 
"The Shenandoah Herald" (Woodstock, VA) July 3, 1878 (Vol. 58, No. 39), 
   p. 2, col. 3 

Physician "L. Wellington JONES" appears in the 1850 Census (St. Lukes P'sh, 
   p. 246a), in the household (#80) of Mark A. JAMES.
