All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ WILLIAM THOMAS JONES William Thomas Jones, Sr., 67, of 109 Oakwood Drive, Franklin died Thursday in Norfolk General Hospital. He was a native of Nansemond County and the husband of Polly Stephenson* Jones. He was retired general manager of the Sheet and Roll Finishing Division of Union Camp Corp. after forty-four years of service. He was a member of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church, where he served as past chairman of the Board of Deacons and Official Board. He was a member of the Men’s Fellowship and bible Class and chairman of the Finance Board. He was a retired major in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was past president of the Franklin Lion’s club, a former JayCee and a member of the George F. Dashiell American Legion Post 49. He was awarded the JayCee "Outstanding Boss of the Year: and the "Distinguished Service Award" by the National Technical Association of Pulp and Paper Manufacturers for service in the Franklin community. He was instrumental in the organization of the Franklin High School Band Program and was past president of the Bronco Federal Credit Union of Union Camp Corp. Other survivors include a daughter, Judith Carolyn Terrell of Camden. S.C.; a son, William Thomas Jones, Jr., Charleston, W.Va.; two sisters, Adelia J. Truitt of Elon College, N.C., Mary R.J. Stephenson of Suffolk, Va.; three brothers, Dr. Darden W. Jones, of Franklin, Dr. Brock D. Jones, Jr. of Norfolk and Elijah N. Jones of Canada; four grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wright Funeral Home, by Dr. Richard T. Diekmann. Burial will be Poplar Spring Cemetery.
