ANNIE EDWARDS JOHNSON

   Mrs. Annie Edwards Johnson, age 58, passed away Sunday evening at 8:30 after 
an extended illness.  She was the daughter of the late James Robert Edwards and 
Fannie Barrett Edwards of Southampton County, and the wife of L.E. Johnson also 
of Southampton County.

   Funeral services were conducted from the Purviance Funeral Home in Boykins 
Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. L.F. Callaham, pastor of the Methodist Church, 
officiating.  He was assisted by Rev. J. Felix Arnold, pastor of the Baptist 
Church of the town.  Music was presented by Mrs. B.R. Bryant, E.W. Bryant, L.F. 
Callaham and P.T. Person.

   Active pallbearers were: J.M. Britt, W. Hugh Powell, J.M. Bland, L.A. Hill, 
J.P. Johnson and J.B. Johnson.  Mrs. Johnson was buried in Beechwood Cemetery, 
Boykins.

   She is survived by her husband, L.E. Johnson of this town, one brother, J. 
Dayton Edwards of Boykins, two nieces, Miss Bernice Edwards and Mrs. Herbert 
Hood of Norfolk, and one nephew, James Robert Edwards of Boykins.

No marriage record readily found in VA or NC, but her husband seems likely 
   identical with  "L.E. Johnson of Murfreesboro," a son of Martha Jane 
   (SMITH; John W.) JOHNSON, whose father was Littleberry SMITH.
