ALICE JOHNSON Mrs. Alice Newsoms Johnson, 79, resident of the Newsoms community for a number of years and for the past four years a patient in Patrick Henry Hospital, died Monday afternoon, February 18, after a long illness. Mrs. Johnson was the widow of Eugene Johnson of Newsoms and the daughter of the late David and Fannie Hayes Newsoms of Gates County, N.C. She was a member of the Newsoms Baptist Church. Surviving her are a son, Cecil Johnson, and a daughter, Mrs. Lizzie Lambertson, both of Portsmouth; three sisters, Mrs. J. F. Flythe of Portsmouth, Mrs. Martha Lassiter of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and Mrs. Roy Gray of Franklin, and a brother David Newsoms, Jr., of Franklin. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Newsoms Baptist church with Rev. L. F. Smith, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Blackjack Cemetery near Newsoms.
