Johnson of Drewryville, died at her home Monday, October 22, in the 50th year of her life. She was the daughter of the late James E. and Mrs. Sarah Westbrook and all of her life had been spent here where she was one of the best-loved members of the Drewryville community. On September 14, 1905, she was married to Samuel Pettaway Johnson of this county who survived her with five children, Elizabeth Carolyn, Brooks Adeline, Nellie McLemore, S.P., Jr. and Owen Westbrook Johnson. She also leaves two brothers, A.B. Westbrook of Portsmouth and H.L. Westbrook of Franklin, and three sisters, Mrs. W.R.L. Cobb, Jr., and Mrs. Otis M. Joyner of Courtland and Mrs. E.E. Duncan of Waverly, besides many other relatives and a host of friends wherever she was known. Mrs. Johnson was a woman of unusual usefulness and strength of character, that tireless strength so often found where physical weakness abides. Through a long and painful illness she was patient, cheerful and an inspiration to all who visited her. In early girlhood she united with Persons M.E. Church, remaining a member there until the new church at Drewryville was built when she moved her membership here. Her religious life was much more than mere affiliation with a church - was lived in all human relationships as wife, mother, friend and neighbor. She believed that the kind work was of more value than criticism; that practical Christianity found its highest expression in unselfish neighborliness, and that the richest heritage she could leave her children was the example of a life well and faithfully spent in generous, untiring consistent Christian service to home, to church, to the community and to her Lord. The burial services were conducted by a former Pastor, Rev. A.K. Lambdin of Wakefield, assisted by Rev. C.H. Fielding, pastor of the Drewryville M.E. Church, Dr. Hugh C. Smith and Rev. L.W. Kersey. Interment was made in the family plot in the Drewryville cemetery, the mound being covered with a profusion of beautiful flowers, sent by many sorrowing friends. The body bearers were: H.L. Westbrook, A.B. Westbrook, G.L.H. Johnson, W.R.L. Cobb, O.M. Joyner, E.E. Duncan, J.L. Myrick, William Birdsong. Honorary: F.E. Pope, J.P. Fox, Dr. J.A. Grizzard, Dr. W.B. Barham, J.W. Claud, R.A.
