He is survived by one daughter, Miss Ella Johnson; one son, Pete Johnson; a grandson, Oscar Johnson; four great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Camdin Francis, all of Handsom. In the passing of Mr. Johnson the Handsom community loses its oldest and a highly esteemed citizen. His familiar figure will be greatly missed. Funeral services were held from the residence Tuesday afternoon, conducted by his Pastor, Rev. J.K. Holman. Burial was made in the family plot on the old Rountree farm nearby. Active pallbearers were E.T. Johnson, Harry Fowler, James Tharrington, T.V. Bailey, Algy Fowler and A.J. Whiltey. (St. Lukes Parish, p. 270a) Similarly white couple Elias & Sally J. STORY appear, with 3 children. (St. Lukes Parish, p. 274a) Joshua Johnson & Peggy/Peggey Story (21 & upwards) m.bond 27 Jul 1847; consent of Mills Story; sec/wit: Lias Story; Wm.W. Briggs, L.R. Edwards m. 29 Jul 1847 by Robert S. Barnes (Southampton Co. M.Reg. 1750-1853, pp. 564, 715) His mother seems identical with Margarita "Peggy" STORY JOHNSON (1825-1904), buried in the HEDGEPETH-JOHNSON family cemetery, near Drake's Corner.
