Holland and Sons Funeral Home by the Rev. Harry W. Bunch and the Rev. Bobby P. Tyson. Burial was in Southampton Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Harold Babb Sr., E.B. Carter Sr., Lloyd Story, J.C. Johnson Jr., Walter Bishop, Ben Bryant, Delbert Whitehead and Linwood Lee Johnson. A native of Southampton County, he was the husband of Mrs. Rushie Ritter Johnson and a son of Henry and Mrs. [Mary Ella] Hedgepeth Johnson. He was a retired farmer and a member of Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church. Besides his widow, surviving are a son, Emmette Johnson Jr., three daughters, Mrs. Mary Nell Babb of Courtland, Mrs. Carolyn J. Thorpe of Newsoms, and Mrs. Janet Cannan of Avon, Conn.; three sisters, Mrs. Lillian Spencer of Hamlet, N.C., Mrs. Mamie Baker and Mrs. Mattie Gilliam of Handsom; and 11 grandchildren.
