JOHNSON George L. Johnson, 79, died suddenly at 4:40 o'clock Thursday afternoon, January 8, at the home in Boykins of H.L. Smith. He was a member of the Boykins Baptist Church and of its Men's Bible Class. His nearest surviving kin are nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Boykins Baptist Church, with the pastor, Rev. N.B. Habel, officiating, assisted by Rev. Marshall W. Anderson. The choir, with Mrs. Earl W. Bryant at the organ, sang "In The Sweet Bye and Bye;" and Mrs. H. F. McCoy sang "Abide With Me." The casket was covered with a pall of white roses and red and white carnations. Interment was in Beechwood Cemetery. Members of the Men's Bible Class were honorary pallbearers. Active pallbearers were Ed Barkley, James S. Fuller, Harvey Griffin, J.W. Holland, Frank N. Lee, Frank R. Stephens, L.L. Story and S.J. Wilson. D.Cert. 2669 (Boykins #1) gives son of Richard & Chaddar. He was the son of Miles Richard "Dick" & "Chetta" Chitter Anne (BARNES) JOHNSON. He m. widow Annie May (RAWLS VICK) WOODARD 1 Jul 1934. (M.Reg. #158) Annie "Mary" & Hugh Thomas VICK are listed 28 Feb 1926 in the Nansemond Co. M.Reg. (#65), but there was no return. They actually m. 13 May 1926 in Windsor, Bertie Co., NC. They div. 2 May 1929; Div.Cert. 29-000951 gives m. 13 Jun 1926 in Windsor, NC. She 2m. an unknown WOODARD. She d. 17 May 1936 and was buried in Eastern State Hospital Cemetery, Williamsburg.
