Johnson, widow of B. Frank Johnson, died on Monday morning, February 23, at her home on Chestnut Street, Franklin, after several years of failing health. At the time of her death she was 79 years of age. Mrs. Johnson was a daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Patricia Johnston Sledge of Halifax County, N.C., moving many years ago to Franklin, where she was a member of the High Street Methodist Church. Surviving her are two nieces, Dr. Pattie J. Groves of South Hadley, Mass., and Mrs. J.H. Bacon of Littleton, N.C.; one nephew, Wesley Grovers, of South Hadley, Mass.; and two half-sisters, Mrs. E.L. Utley of Norfolk and Mrs. Charlie Underwood of Richmond. Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 o’clock, Wednesday afternoon from the Holland Funeral Home, her pastor, Rev. E.W. Aaron officiating. Interment was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the pallbearers being W.B. Simpson, Dr. James P. Broaddus, J.C. Williams, L.A. Whitley, W.B. Hasting, W.F. Keeter, Sr., and E.H. Coggsdale.
