All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ GEORGE ELLIOTT JOHNSON PEANUT BUYER DIES AFTER HEART ATTACK George Elliott Johnson, 62, for ten years a buyer for the Lummis Peanut Company, died at his home on Military Road, Suffolk, on Monday afternoon, June 9, following a brief illness. Mr. Johnson was a native of Carrsville, the son of the late George W. and Mrs. Margaret Carson Johnson. For many years he was employed as a buyer for the Pretlow Peanut Company and the Franklin Peanut Company, but moved to Suffolk ten years ago, being connected with the Lummis Peanut Company of that city. Last Saturday morning he suffered a heart attack and was stricken with paralysis, and died without regaining consciousness. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Suffolk and of the Franklin Lodge of Odd Fellows. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ella Darden Johnson; five sisters, Mrs. Myrtle J. Forbes of Franklin, Mrs. R.E.L. Kyle of Ocean View, and Mrs. J.R. Bracey and Misses Lucy and Geneva Johnson of Carrsville; besides a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Johnson were conducted on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock at the Franklin Baptist Church, the officiating minister being his pastor, Rev. J. Lester Lane of Suffolk, assisted by Rev. Randolph Gregory of the Franklin Baptist Church and Rev. R.D. Stephenson of the Cradock Baptist Church. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery.
