All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ HUGH CHAPMAN JOHNSON Hugh Chapman Johnson, son of the late Jeptha W. and Mary Ann Turner Johnson, died suddenly Thursday, Novemeber 7. He was a native of Southampton County and had lived in Norfolk 36 years. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Lena Wilson Johnson; two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Faircloth of Raleigh and Mrs. B.D. Crocker of Suffolk; five brothers, J.T. Johnson of Orlando, Florida, J.P. Johnson of Oak Hill, W. Va., R.L. Johnson of Sedley, S.F. Johnson of Suffolk and I.A. Johnson of Norfolk. Funeral services were conducted at the funeral home of E. Lee Cox & Bro., Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock. The Rev. Thomas A. Smoot, D.D., pastor of Epworth Methodist Church, of which he was a member, officiated. A quartette from the Wesleymen’s Bible Class, sang "Beautiful Isle" and "Jesus, Savior Pilot Me." The services were largely attended and there was a profusion of flowers. The casket was covered with a pall of white chrysanthemums and pink roses. Pallbearers were: Elias Etheredge, B.M. Trotter, Charles S. Lassiter, Richard W. Martin, E.S. Ferebee, O.B. Woolridge, John W. Wilson and W.F. Powers. Burial was made in the family plot in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk.
