Jenkins, died at her home in North High Street yesterday (Thursday) afternoon after a brief illness. Mrs. Jenkins was 71 years old. She had been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Sarah Pugh of Portsmouth for the past year and had returned to Franklin for a visit on Thursday of last week. Mrs. Jenkins was the daughter of the late Elisha Rawls and Sarah Freeman Rawls. Besides her daughter she is survived by three sons, W.H. Jenkins of New York; J. Willard Jenkins of Chicago and W. Crawford Jenkins of Portsmouth; a sister, Mrs. Mason Jones of Holland, a brother, Lafayette Rawls of Carrsville and five grandchildren. Mrs. Jenkins was a communicant of the Franklin Baptist Church. Her sunny personality and kindly disposition had won her many friends during her long residence here. Funeral services will be conducted from the residence in High Street Saturday afternoon at 4 o’clock by the Rev. R.D. Stephenson, her pastor. Interment will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery here. ****************************************************************************** The funeral of Mrs. Henrietta Rawls Jenkins, highly-esteemed Franklin woman whose death was recorded in last week’s News, were held from her late residence in North High Street Saturday afternoon at 4 o’clock in the presence of a large company of friends. Rev. R.D. Stephenson, pastor of the Franklin Baptist Church where Mrs. Jenkins had been a consistent member for many years, conducted the rites, assisted by the Rev. J.T. Garland Moore of Beaver Dam. "Rock of Ages" was sung by a quartette from the church choir; the scripture lessons were read by Mr. Stephenson and Mr. Moore, the prayer being offered by Mr. Stephenson. The active pallbearers were Mrs. Jenkins’ three sons, W.H. Jenkins, Jr. of Philadelphia, W. Crawford Jenkins of Norfolk and J. Willard Jenkins of Chicago; her son-in-law, Randolph Pugh of Portsmouth, and four nephews, D.W. Darden of Richmond, Emmett and Felton Rawls and William Jones of Holland. The honorary bearers were selected from a number of old friends of the family. Burial was made in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Mrs. Jenkins, who had been making her home in Portsmouth with her daughter, Mrs. Randolph Pugh, for about a year, had been in Franklin only a few days when her death occurred suddenly April 22. Besides her children, there are five grandchildren; a brother, Lafayette Rawls of Carrsville, and a sister, Mrs. Mason Jones of Holland, besides a large family connection and a wide circle of friends. Few people have been residents of our town and community who have made a finer or more lasting impression upon friends and neighbors than Mrs. Jenkins.
