Johnson, a prominent merchant of Courtland, died Friday afternoon, October 9 at Raiford Hospital, Franklin, following a few days’ illness. He was the son of the late Richard Johnson and Mrs. Rosa Johnson of Sedley. Mr. Johnson was 53 years old and had spent most of his life in the county. He was a member of the Courtland Methodist Church, and a member of the Courtland Masonic Lodge. He was a quiet unassuming character, a man of good principles and numbered many friends here and in Petersburg where he lived a few years. He is survived by his mother, his wife, Mrs. Dorah Poates Johnson; two brothers, J.W. and A.H. Johnson of Sedley; three sisters, Miss Lily Johnson of Sedley, Mrs. Grace Barrett of Zuni and Mrs. Lula* Harris of Berlin. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 1 o’clock in the Courtland Methodist Church by his Pastor, Rev. A.W. Roten. The services were largely attended and there was special music by the choir. Active pallbearers were: D.C. Magette, L.M. Marks, O.M. Joyner, W.T. Joyner, C.W. Parker and Sidney Vick. The casket was covered with a pall of lilies and pink roses. Interment was made in Riverview Cemetery, Richmond. A large number of relatives and friends attended the burial services which were conducted by the Masons of Courtland Lodge. "Junie" Junius H.
