JOHNSON After a lingering illness of many months, J.J. Johnson died at his home here Friday morning, May 22, in the 70th year of his life. He was a native and life-long resident of Southampton County living at the "Old Johnson Home" about three miles from here until four years ago when he moved to Branchville. He was a member of the Branchville Methodist Church and faithful to its every services and teachings. Mr. Johnson was a thorough Christian, living a quiet, gentle life, he was a devoted husband, loving father and esteemed citizen, trying at all times to be a friend and good neighbor. He was twice married, first to Miss Sallie Vick, daughter of the late Elias Vick, and to this union three children were born who survive him; Mrs. W.E. Lewter, Bennie and Robert Johnson of Richmond. His second wife was Miss Pattie Eason, who survives him and to them were born four children, Misses Fannie, Bessie and Katherine Johnson and Paul Thomas Johnson of Branchville. There is also a sister, Mrs. N.H. Harris of Suffolk, and a brother, Augustus Johnson of Branchville. Funeral services were conducted at the home Sunday afternoon by his Pastor, Rev. R.L. Haga of Boykins, assisted by Rev. Frank B. Handley of the Baptist Church. Interment was at the Johnson Home. During the services the choirs of the two churches sang his favorite songs, "Nearer My God to Thee," "Going Down the Valley" and "Safe In the Arms of Jesus." The floral designs were many and beautiful. John J.
