Mr. Johnson, a native of Newsoms, retired as a shop foreman for the Virginia Department of Transportation, Franklin office, after 35 years of service. He was a member of Newsoms Baptist Church and was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Mary Cain Johnson; a daughter, Joy Blythe of Franklin; three step-daughters, Linda Parker of Murfreesboro, N.C. , Judy Darden and Kathy Darden, both of Newsoms; four step-sons, Earl Miles and Floyd Darden, both of Franklin, Thomas Miles of Rich Square, N.C., and Curtis A. Miles of Boykins; three sisters, Julia Sparksman of Chesapeake, Leigh Cook of Newsoms and Lina Cook of Boykins; a brother, Roy Johnson of Newsoms; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. The graveside service was conducted Sunday in Hollywood Cemetery, Newsoms, by the Rev. Kenneth Williams.
