JOHNSON John Everette Johnson, 89, a native of Southampton County but a resident of Portsmouth for the past three years, died Thursday, July 12, at 2:34 p.m. at Maryview Hospital, Portsmouth, after a short illness. Mr. Johnson, a retired farmer, was the husband of the late Mrs. Mary Bryant Johnson and the son of the late William and Mrs. Evaline Griffin Johnson of Southampton County. He was a member of the Boykins Baptist Church. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Estelle J. Johnson, Mrs. Mildred A. Clark and Mrs. Texie B. Askew, all of Norfolk; one son, Walter L. Johnson of Portsmouth; four grandchildren, eight step grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Daisey Smith of Roanoke Rapids, N.C. and Mrs. Cora Taylor of Courtland. Funeral services were conducted Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of the W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home by Rev. John P. Stephenson, pastor of the Franklin Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins. Pallbearers were Thomas E., Edward Lewis, Robert B., Joshua B., Jr., Willie, Dallas, Otis R. and Herbert M. Johnson.
