All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ MARY CORNELIA JOHNSON JOHNSON NEWSOMS - A funeral service for Mrs. Mary Cornelia Johnson was conducted Tuesday at 3 p.m. in new Newsoms Baptist Church by the Rev. Allen Lawrence, pastor of the church. Burial was in the Black Jack Cemetery with W.J.M. Holland & Sons in charge. Pallbearers were Paul Harris, Paul Pope, Raleigh Johnson, Edward Johnson, Cecil Johnson, Emmett Pope, Clinton Blythe and Floyd Pope. Mrs. Johnson, 79, died Sunday afternoon in an Enfield, N.C. nursing home. She was the widow of John Edward Johnson and the daughter of Albert and Mrs. Lydia Griffin Johnson. She had spent most of her life in Newsoms and was a native of Hertford, N.C. She was a member of the Newsoms Baptist Church and the church’s Women’s Missionary Society. She is survived by three sons, John Thomas Johnson, Wingate Ray Johnson, Joseph A. Johnson of Newsoms; three daughters, Mrs. W.A. Cooke of Boykins, Mrs. James J. Cooke of Newsoms, and Mrs. William M. Slarkman Jr., of Chesapeake; two brothers, James H. Johnson of Norfolk and Arthur Johnson of Capron; one sister, Mrs. Haley Pope of Boykins; 14 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
