Miss Johnson was the second daughter of William and Sallie Flowers Johnson of this town and was born in Scotland County*, N.C., December 23, 1874, where she resided until 1904 when the family moved to the Franklin community, removing to Franklin a few months ago. For a number of years until failing health prevented, she taught in the schools of the town and district where her efficient service and affectionate interest in her pupils made for her a wide circle of friends. At the early age of twelve she was converted and baptized into the membership of the Spring Hill Baptist Church, transferring her membership to the Franklin Baptist Church when she moved here and remaining a most devoted and useful member until her death. She was a woman of most excellent qualities, in her everyday life, emphasizing the things that crown character with beauty and strength. Her life radiated the sunshine of cheerfulness and breathed the aroma of unselfish love. All through her long and painful illness she manifested a spirit of patience and courage that challenged the admiration and wonder of all who knew her. She knew life at its best and looked forward with eager anticipation to the unfettered life into which she has been translated. She is survived by her parents; by two brothers, T.P. Johnson of Philadelphia and J.A. Johnson of Franklin; by three sisters, Mrs. Geo. W. Livermon and Miss Sallie Johnson of Norfolk and Miss Carrie Johnson of this town and by many close relatives in North Carolina. The funeral services were conducted from the residence Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock by Rev. M.A. MacLean of the Baptist Church, assisted by Rev. J.A. Chapman of the M.E. Church, interment following in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The pallbearers were W.H. Lankford, J.F. Bryant, R.E. L. Watkins, J.N. Bell, J.B. Gay, W.O. Bristow, Dr. B.J. Ray, C.A. Cutchins, Jr. *Scotland Co., NC, was formed from Richmond Co. in 1899.
