Johnson died Thursday, October 17, at her home at Handsom, age 66 years. She was the widow of the late Henry L. Johnson and daughter of the late Jack and Peninah Hedgepeth. She is survived by one brother, J.H. Hedgepeth; four sons, Eugene T., Robert L., James C. and Emmett R. Johnson, all of Handsom; three daughters, Mrs. S.J. Gilliam of Handsom, Mrs. G.P. Baker and Mrs. R.L. Friend of Savannah; 15 grandchildren, the oldest being Linwood Johnson, whom she raised from infancy. The funeral was conducted from the home on Friday the 18th, by the Rev. L.E. Dailey of the Newsoms Baptist church in the absence of Rev. R.H. Marks, pastor of Mt. Horeb M.E. Church, of which the deceased had been a member for many years. Interment was made in the old family burying ground near Handsom. The body bearers were: J.F. Bishop, G.A. Fowler, Wm. Holland, J.T. Bryant, E.R. Story, J.W. Francis, A.P. Porter and C.D. Crumpler. The casket was covered with a double spray of Easter lilies. There were many other beautiful floral contributions, which with the large number of friends present were significant of the esteem in which the deceased was held. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Hedgepeth, Delaware Hedgepeth, Mr. and Mrs. Garnett Whitley of Norfolk, Misses Elizabeth Hedgepeth and Bettie Simmons of Endicott, Va., Miss Margaret Alston of Henderson, N.C., G.P. Baker and R.L. Friend of Savannah, and Mrs. Baker and Mrs. Friend, who had been spending several days with Mrs. Johnson during her illness. Mary Ella (HEDGEPETH; Mrs. Henry L.)
