RUTH DIXON BROWN JOHNSON

   Mrs. Ruth Brown Johnson, 56, a native and lifelong resident of Franklin, 
died Saturday morning, November 3, in Raiford Memorial Hospital, where she was 
taken for treatment the Saturday morning preceding. 

   Mrs. Johnson was a daughter of the late Richard and Martha Howell Brown of 
Franklin, and wife of Joe P. Johnson, also of Franklin. She was a member of the 
Franklin Congregational Christian Church. 

   Besides her husband she is survived by one son. H. Shepherd Johnson, USN, 
stationed at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth; one daughter, Mrs. Brownie 
Collier of Franklin; a sister Mrs. Mary Brown Beaton of Franklin; and a nephew, 
John A. Beaton, Jr. USN, Jacksonville, Fla. 

   Funeral services were conducted at the residence, 317 Grove Street, on 
Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, with Rev. W.A. Grissom, pastor of the 
deceased, officiating.  Interment was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the 
pallbearers being Lawless Cobb, Jack Farmer, Lewis Gillette, D.A. Gooden, Jimmy 
Lee, Spencer Smith, Vance Vaughan and Franklin Whitfield.
